Ranchi, September 4, 2026: Budheshwar Bhagat, who is currently in jail in connection with the JPSC exam scam case, has moved the Ranchi CID special court seeking bail. His bail petition has been filed through advocate Kundan Kumar Verma.

The Jharkhand CID arrested Bhagat on August 5, 2026. He is a resident of Bezwali village in Lohardaga district and had been working as a contractual computer operator at the National Health Mission (NHM) office in Namkum since 2008.

Besides his contractual job, Bhagat was also involved in the buying and selling of land, according to the case details cited in the source.

Alleged link with Abhay Kumar Tiwari

The allegations against Bhagat relate to his alleged association with Abhay Kumar Tiwari during 2022-23. According to the allegations, Tiwari had visited the NHM office in connection with obtaining outsourced work, during which he came into contact with Bhagat.

The two allegedly remained in contact thereafter and, according to the investigation, were involved in the alleged examination scam.

The allegations are yet to be established in court.

Bail plea to be heard on September 5

The CID special court in Ranchi is scheduled to hear Bhagat’s bail petition on Saturday, September 5.

The same day is also significant in the case as the court is expected to pronounce its decision on the bail petition of former Jharkhand Chief Secretary and former JPSC chairman L. Khyangte, who is also an accused in the case.

The proceedings on September 5 are therefore expected to be closely watched, with both bail matters coming before the CID special court.
