Ranchi, September 03, 2026: Food safety inspections have begun across Ranchi after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) identified 115 food products over alleged misleading claims, misbranding, improper promotion and other regulatory violations.
Following the FSSAI directions, the Ranchi district administration and Health Department have instructed food businesses to withdraw existing stocks of the identified products from sale. Food Safety Officer Saurabh Singh is leading inspections at shops and other establishments across the city.
The directive applies to food business operators, distributors, retailers and e-commerce platforms. They have been asked to check their inventories against the FSSAI list, immediately withdraw the identified products and stop their sale.
Popular brands among products under scrutiny
The list includes a range of commonly sold food and beverage products, including Patanjali Milk Biscuit by Patanjali Foods, Kinder Joy by Ferrero India and Saffola Total Heart Pro Cooking Oil by Marico.
Various energy and sports beverages, chocolates, baby food and other food products are also included in the list.
Among the beverages mentioned are Sting Energy, Red Bull, Monster Energy, Hell Energy, Adrenaline Rush, Campa Energy and Gatorade Sports Drink.
The directions also address the use of terms such as “energy drink” and “sports drink”, stating that such descriptions cannot be used on products unless they meet the prescribed regulatory requirements.
Ranchi retailers told to stop sales
During the inspections, food safety officials have instructed retailers to stop selling the identified products and remove the relevant stock from their premises.
Saurabh Singh said inspections and field visits would continue across different parts of Ranchi to check compliance with the recall directions.
The administration is also focusing on claims and branding that could potentially mislead consumers about a food product, its nutritional properties or other characteristics.
Action possible under food safety law
Authorities have warned that businesses found violating the directions could face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including Sections 52 and 53 and other applicable provisions.
Consumers have also been advised to check product packaging carefully, particularly claims and nutritional information, before purchasing food items. The Food Safety Department said complaints regarding the sale of identified products would be examined and action taken where violations are found.
