Ranchi:, August 31, 2026 Affordable treatment, quality medical care and respectful behaviour towards patients are central to the identity of a hospital, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said on Monday while addressing the 69th foundation day programme of Nagarml Modi Seva Sadan in Ranchi.

Gangwar said healthcare goes beyond treating illness and also involves human dignity, compassion and social responsibility. He stressed the importance of institutions that provide accessible and affordable treatment, particularly to economically weaker and needy sections of society.

Sewa Sadan’s journey from maternity home to multispeciality hospital

The Governor noted that Nagarml Modi Seva Sadan began in 1958 as a small maternity home and has since developed into a multispeciality hospital. He described its nearly seven-decade journey as an example of service, dedication and community support.

He said a hospital’s reputation cannot be determined solely by its building, medical equipment or technological infrastructure. Patients arrive not only with an illness but also with anxiety, pain and the expectation of receiving proper treatment.

For that reason, he said, preserving a patient’s dignity, trust and emotional well-being should be given the same importance as medical treatment.

Gangwar highlighted the hospital’s message “low cost, proper treatment, right behaviour” as reflecting the need to combine affordability, quality and compassion in healthcare.

With medical expenses continuing to place pressure on families, he said institutions providing affordable and quality healthcare have an even greater responsibility.

Quality, safety and technology need continued focus

The Governor said the long-standing trust of people in Ranchi and surrounding areas was Sewa Sadan’s biggest strength. Maintaining that trust, he said, would require continued attention to treatment quality, patient safety, cleanliness and humane conduct.

He also emphasised the need for healthcare institutions to keep pace with changing requirements through modern technology, specialised services, training and research.

Gangwar praised the hospital’s doctors, nursing staff, technical personnel and other employees, saying the success of a healthcare institution depends on the collective effort and coordination of its entire team.

He said standing by patients during difficult periods and giving them confidence was an important part of medical service.

Before the foundation day programme, the Governor visited the hospital’s community dialysis department and interacted with patients undergoing treatment. He enquired about their health and treatment and wished them a speedy recovery.
