Ghatshila, September 03, 2026: East Singhbhum District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan conducted a surprise inspection of claim-and-objection hearing centres in Ghatshila block as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) – 2026 of electoral rolls.
Deputy Election Officer Priyanka Singh accompanied him during the inspection.
Rather than limiting the review to office records, Ranjan visited different hearing centres to assess the facilities available to voters and check the number of applications received and their current disposal status.
DEO checks door-to-roll verification
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the “Home to Roll Verification” work being carried out by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
He interacted directly with local voters and checked their electoral-roll details to assess the verification process on the ground.
BLOs, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) present during the inspection were directed to follow Election Commission guidelines strictly while carrying out verification and to ensure that details of every eligible citizen are recorded impartially.
Focus on accuracy and time-bound disposal
Ranjan told officials that the purpose of SIR-2026 was to ensure that the electoral roll remained accurate, transparent and free of errors.
He directed officials to dispose of claims and objections within the prescribed timelines and in accordance with the rules, with the aim of reducing inconvenience for citizens visiting government offices.
Voters urged to check electoral-roll details
The District Election Officer also appealed to voters to verify their own names and those of family members in the electoral roll, along with other entries.
Citizens who find discrepancies or require corrections have been asked to submit applications at the designated hearing centres within the prescribed period.
