Ranchi, September 03, 2026: The Harmu Bypass walkway in Ranchi has been cleared of around 80 advertising boards and hoardings after the Ranchi Municipal Corporation launched an enforcement drive to restore space for pedestrians.

The civic body said the structures had been placed on the footpath and walkway in violation of applicable rules, making it difficult for people to move freely through the pedestrian area.

The operation targeted both small and large advertising boards. Some of the structures were also found installed below the prescribed height of 12 feet, according to the municipal corporation.

The drive reflects the civic body’s focus on keeping designated pedestrian spaces free from obstructions rather than allowing advertising installations to occupy areas meant for public movement.

Advertising agencies told to clear unauthorised structures

Following the action, the municipal corporation directed advertising agencies to remove unauthorised boards on their own and ensure that footpaths and walkways remain unobstructed.

The corporation has warned that encroachment or any installation that interferes with pedestrian movement will not be permitted. It also said enforcement action will continue against violations.
