Jamshedpur, September 06, 2026: Preparations for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations at Agrico in Jamshedpur formally began on Sunday with a traditional Bhumi Pujan ceremony at the Agrico Club House premises.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das participated in the ceremony as the chief yajman as priests performed the rituals amid Vedic chants.

The ceremony marked the beginning of the committee’s preparations for what organisers said would be a larger and more elaborate Durga Puja this year.

Eight-year-old tradition to get a grander scale

According to Agrico Durga Puja Committee president Y.P. Singh, the community has been organising Durga Puja at Agrico with devotion for the past eight years.

This year, the committee plans to give the celebrations a more elaborate setting. Artisans from the Kautumbi area of West Bengal will be brought in to construct the main puja pandal at an estimated cost of around Rs 15 lakh.

The Durga idol, meanwhile, is expected to be brought from West Bengal and will cost approximately Rs 2 lakh, according to the committee.

Pandal and idol work begins

The organisers said special attention is being given to the design and appearance of the idol this year, with the aim of creating an attractive setting for devotees visiting the puja.

With the Bhumi Pujan completed, work related to the pandal and idol preparations has now begun.

The ceremony was conducted by priests Anand Kumar Mishra and Satish Pathak through Vedic rituals.

Committee general secretary Bhupendra Singh, office-bearers and members, including Sanjay Kumar Singh, Amit Upadhyay, Aman Singh, Avinash Gautam Prasad, Rahul Mukhi, Kalika Singh, Jaishankar Singh, Satish Kumar Singh and Sanjay Pandey, were present.

A large number of local residents also attended the ceremony.

The committee said its preparations are aimed at combining the religious significance of Durga Puja with a grand experience for devotees visiting the Agrico pandal.
