Giridih, September 06, 2026: The mortal remains of Jharkhand minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu have been brought to his residence in Giridih, where party workers, supporters and people from different sections of society are arriving to pay their final respects.

The body will remain at his residence for public homage until 1 pm on Sunday, after which his final journey will begin at around 2 pm, according to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha central general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey.

Preparations for the final journey are underway as a large number of supporters and JMM workers continue to reach the residence.

Leaders arrive to pay their respects

The minister’s death has drawn condolences from leaders across the political spectrum.

Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari reached Sonu’s Giridih residence along with Sarath MLA Uday Shankar Singh, popularly known as Chunna Singh. Ansari described Sonu’s death as an irreparable loss and recalled his association with the deceased minister.

Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh also visited the residence and met members of the bereaved family.

The presence of political leaders from different parties has underlined the wider grief following Sonu’s sudden death.

Champai Soren pays tribute

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren expressed grief over Sonu’s death, describing the passing as deeply distressing.

In his condolence message, Soren prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to cope with the loss. He concluded his message with “Antim Johar.”

BJP state president and Annapurna Devi express grief

The BJP Jharkhand state president also expressed condolences, describing Sonu’s death as deeply painful and praying for strength for his family and supporters.

Union Minister Annapurna Devi also paid tribute to the deceased minister. She described his sudden death as deeply distressing and extended condolences to his family and supporters.

Final journey scheduled for 2 pm

With the mortal remains now at Sonu’s Giridih residence, the immediate focus is on the final farewell.

According to JMM, people will be able to pay their last respects at the residence until 1 pm, following which the final journey will leave at around 2 pm.

Sonu’s death has triggered mourning across Giridih and Jharkhand, with political colleagues, party workers and supporters gathering to bid farewell to a leader who had spent decades in public life.
