Hazaribagh, September 06, 2026: A three-year-old boy was killed and two members of his family were seriously injured after a container truck hit their motorcycle near Gorhar bridge in Barkatha police station area on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shivam Kumar. His father Umesh Kumar, 27, and grandmother Geeta Devi, 46, were injured in the crash.
The family was travelling from Atka Bagodar to Gorhar village when the accident occurred.
Motorcycle lost balance near Gorhar bridge
According to the available information, Umesh Kumar was taking his son and mother to Gorhar to consult a doctor.
Near the bridge, the motorcycle reportedly became unbalanced after encountering a pothole on the road. A container approaching from behind then collided with the motorcycle.
The container was registered as KA 52 B 0895.
The impact proved fatal for Shivam, who died at the spot. His father and grandmother suffered serious injuries.
Injured taken to Barkatha health centre
Local residents responded after the accident and helped transport the injured to the Community Health Centre in Barkatha.
After receiving initial treatment, Geeta Devi was referred to Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh, for further treatment because of the seriousness of her injuries.
Child’s body sent for post-mortem
Police reached the accident site after being informed about the incident and took custody of the child’s body.
The body was subsequently sent to Barhi for post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision, including how the motorcycle lost balance and the sequence of events leading to the container hitting the family.
