Hazaribagh, September 4, 2026: Efforts to address recurring traffic congestion, dust and damaged service lanes on the Chauparan-Barhi stretch of NH-2 have gathered pace, with NHAI officials conducting a detailed site inspection on Friday.
NHAI Project Director Ashutosh Soni, accompanied by Barhi SDPO Radha Prem Kishore, inspected key locations including Barhi Chowk, Bilautia Mor, Rasoiya Dhamna and areas around Chauparan.
The inspection focused on the condition of the main road and service lanes, encroachments, signage and traffic arrangements.
Following the assessment, NHAI officials were directed to repair the service lanes within a week and address deficiencies related to road safety.
Service lanes to be repaired to reduce traffic pressure
Soni said vehicle pressure is particularly high on the stretch from the Choradaha border to Gorhar. Ongoing road construction and damaged service lanes have been affecting traffic movement at several locations.
The immediate focus is on restoring the service lanes so that traffic can be diverted more effectively and pressure on the main carriageway can be reduced.
Officials also discussed repairs required after damage caused by continuous rainfall. Bituminous work will be carried out wherever the road and service lanes have deteriorated.
Damaged signs, encroachments flagged during inspection
Several damaged signboards were found during the inspection, prompting instructions for their immediate replacement.
NHAI officials were also asked to mark NHAI land and install delineators at necessary locations to improve road visibility and safety.
The local administration will coordinate with NHAI to remove encroachments from the highway corridor. Reflective material will also be installed around the roundabout to improve visibility.
These measures are intended to address both immediate traffic problems and safety concerns along the busy corridor.
Danuwa Valley accidents also on administration’s radar
The administration is also examining the recurring accidents reported in Danuwa Valley. The project director said necessary measures would be taken in coordination with the district administration.
Soni appealed to motorists to avoid overspeeding and drive cautiously, particularly along accident-prone sections.
Barhi SDPO Radha Prem Kishore said the traffic problem had earlier been brought to the attention of the Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police. Following this, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s level with NHAI officials, where necessary directions were issued.
She added that the Circle Officer and Sub-Divisional Officer would coordinate with the administration on removing encroachments.
With service-lane repairs, improved signage, land marking and traffic-safety measures now being pursued, authorities are looking to reduce congestion and improve traffic movement along the Chauparan-Barhi section of NH-2.
