Jamshedpur, September 4, 2026: What began as an exercise in creativity and entrepreneurship turned into a Teachers’ Day tribute at Gulmohur High School, where students from the Gulmohur Startup Studio created more than 100 handmade earrings and keyrings for their teachers using reusable and leftover materials.
The student enterprise, Gulmohur Rejuven, spent 15 days developing the products from materials including crochet, clay, leftover fabric pieces and other discarded or reusable items.
Rather than simply purchasing gifts, the students took responsibility for the entire production process from designing and selecting materials to crafting and finishing the products.
Learning entrepreneurship through making
Teachers’ Day became an opportunity for the students to put practical skills into action. Under the guidance of teacher mentors Megha and Sudesh, students worked collectively on the products and experienced different stages of a small-scale production process.
The initiative is the second production project of Gulmohur Rejuven. Earlier, the students had designed and produced handmade rakhis for Raksha Bandhan.
Through such projects, the StartUp Studio is giving students practical exposure to entrepreneurship, creativity, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, resource utilisation and environmental responsibility.
The handmade gifts also created an emotional moment for the teachers, who expressed happiness on receiving products made by their students.
School sees sustainability as part of learning
Gulmohur High School principal Preeti Sinha said the achievement should not be measured only by the number of products made, but by what students learned during the process.
She said that when students begin to see possibilities in materials generally considered waste, they learn innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development through experience rather than only through textbooks.
According to the school, the broader objective of the StartUp Studio is to encourage students to become creators of ideas, products and solutions rather than merely consumers of knowledge.
The Teachers’ Day initiative thus combined a message of respect for teachers with the students’ approach of turning waste and reusable materials into useful, handmade products.
