Ranchi, September 6, 2026: Jharkhand is likely to see thunderstorms, rain and lightning in several districts through September 13, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert on Sunday and advise people to remain cautious during adverse weather.
The department has also forecast the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in north-western Jharkhand and adjoining central districts on September 9, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rain possible in parts of state
According to the weather department, isolated areas of north-western and adjoining central Jharkhand could receive heavy rainfall on September 9. Thunderstorms and lightning may accompany the rain.
The alert remains in place amid the possibility of changing weather conditions across different parts of the state until September 13.
Amrapara records highest rainfall
During the 24 hours preceding Sunday, Amrapara in Pakur recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 14.4 mm, according to the department.
Baragarah recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.5°C, while Latehar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 20.3°C.
Ranchi remains hot and humid
Ranchi and surrounding areas remained largely clear on Sunday morning, but residents experienced heat and humidity during the day.
The state capital recorded a maximum temperature of 30°C and a minimum of 21.9°C.
Other major cities also experienced relatively warm conditions. Jamshedpur recorded a maximum of 35°C and a minimum of 25.4°C, while Daltonganj recorded 33°C and 25.7°C, respectively.
Bokaro recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2°C and a minimum of 25.1°C, while Chaibasa recorded 34.8°C as the maximum and 23°C as the minimum.
The weather department has advised people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning, particularly when weather conditions deteriorate.
