Chakradharpur, September 4, 2026: The Janmashtami celebrations at the Dakshineshwari Adi Kalipith Temple began with the inauguration of the temple committee’s puja pandal on Friday.
Chakradharpur police station in-charge Awadhesh Kumar inaugurated the pandal by cutting the ribbon. Members of the temple committee welcomed him with a bouquet, traditional angavastram and a memento.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar described Janmashtami as a festival of faith, devotion and brotherhood. He said religious events of this nature help bring people together and create a positive atmosphere in society.
Referring to the longstanding Shri Krishna Janmashtami fair, he appealed to residents and visitors to celebrate the festival peacefully and maintain communal harmony.
Devotees offer prayers at decorated pandal
Following the inauguration, devotees visited the pandal and offered prayers to Lord Krishna, seeking happiness and prosperity.
The temple premises have been decorated for the festival, while members of the organising committee were seen making preparations with enthusiasm.
The programme was attended by Kalipith chief priest Pandit Raju Kumar Mishra, along with KT Rao, Roshan Singh, Balmukund Rai, Pratap Pramanik, Samarendra Singh, Santosh Dubey, Rajeshwar Pandey, G Prasad Rao, G Srinivas, Ashish Jaiswal, Deepak Dinesh Kumar, Vijay Chaudhary, Harsh Pandey and other committee members.
Priest extends ₹40,000 assistance to woman for prosthetic leg
The celebrations also witnessed an act of personal support, with Kalipith priest Raju Kumar Mishra providing financial assistance to a woman requiring a prosthetic leg.
Devki Lohar, a resident of Porter Kholli and a person with a disability affecting her leg, received ₹40,000 in cash from the priest towards the cost of an artificial limb.
The gesture was appreciated by those present at the event.
