Jamshedpur, September 4, 2026: A fact-finding seminar focused on the challenges facing Jharkhand’s education system and possible solutions will be held in Jamshedpur on September 6, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy said on Friday.
The event is being organised jointly by the Swarnarekha Kshetra Vikas Trust and Nature Foundation. According to Roy, the objective is to identify shortcomings across the education sector and develop practical recommendations that can be placed before the government.
The programme will also bring student concerns into the discussion, with students currently involved in demonstrations in Ranchi over various demands invited to share their experiences and explain the issues they believe are contributing to their dissatisfaction.
Three university vice-chancellors to attend
A key feature of the seminar will be the participation of vice-chancellors from three major universities in Jharkhand.
Those scheduled to attend are:
- Prof. Saroj Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Ranchi University
- Prof. Chandrabhushan Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Vinoba Bhave University
- Prof. Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Jharkhand University of Technology
Roy described the participation of the three vice-chancellors on a common platform as an important aspect of the event.
The discussions are expected to cover both school education and higher education, while also providing space for concerns raised by students and young people.
Teacher deployment becomes part of education debate
Roy also raised concerns over the deployment of teachers for government-related duties outside their core academic responsibilities.
He argued that repeated deployment of teachers for various official assignments takes them away from classroom teaching and reduces regular interaction between teachers and students.
According to Roy, the resulting decline in academic engagement can affect the quality of education.
Three discussion sessions planned
The programme will begin with registration at 9 am, followed by the inaugural session from 10 am to 11 am.
The first discussion session will focus on primary and secondary education, while the second will examine higher education and student-youth dissatisfaction.
After the lunch break, the third session will include a felicitation of teachers and distribution of participation certificates to attendees.
Schools and educational institutions across the district have been invited by the organising committee to participate in the programme.
The seminar is intended to bring students, educators and university leadership into a common discussion on the problems affecting education in Jharkhand and possible measures to address them.
