Pakur, September 1, 2026: A bus and a truck collided head-on on the Pakur-Dumka main road between Shaharkol and Sonajori, leaving the bus driver with a fractured right leg and several passengers injured.
The injured passengers were taken to Sadar Hospital, Pakur, for treatment. The bus driver was given first aid before being referred outside the district for further treatment.
Bus travelling to Dumka when collision occurred
According to the available information, the Abhishek bus was travelling from Pakur towards Dumka when a truck approaching from the opposite direction collided with it between Shaharkol and Sonajori.
The impact was severe, badly damaging the front portion of the bus.
The bus driver suffered a serious injury to his right leg, which was fractured in the accident. He was taken to the hospital immediately and later referred for better treatment after receiving primary care.
Several passengers travelling on the bus also sustained injuries. However, no passenger has been reported to be seriously injured so far. The injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.
Poor road condition raises safety concerns
Local residents said the condition of the Pakur-Dumka main road has deteriorated, with large potholes at several places. They said the problem becomes more serious during the rainy season when water accumulates in the potholes, increasing the risk of accidents.
Residents have demanded early repair of the road.
Police begin investigation
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and began investigating the circumstances of the collision. Officers inspected the damaged vehicles and started looking into the possible causes of the accident.
Traffic movement on the road was also affected for some time following the collision.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
