Giridih, September 1, 2026: Members of the CPI(ML) Jamua East Committee and local villagers staged a protest outside Nawadih OP, raising allegations of irregularities in the local police system, including the alleged role of intermediaries in handling public complaints, influence of land mafias in disputes and illegal lifting of sand.
The protesters reached Nawadih OP from Gandhi Chowk in a procession and raised slogans against the police administration. They placed a banner at the main entrance and blocked the way during the demonstration, which continued for around one and a half hours.
The protest was chaired by Ramkumar Verma and conducted by Virendra Kumar Verma, block secretary of the Inquilabi Naujawan Sabha.
Allegations over intermediaries at police station
CPI(ML) district secretary Ashok Paswan alleged that poor and needy people approaching the police station with complaints were, in some cases, not being heard directly and that intermediaries were allegedly being given greater importance.
Paswan demanded an end to the alleged interference of intermediaries and said ordinary people should be able to present their grievances directly to the police and receive an impartial response.
CPI(ML) leader Vijay Pandey also alleged that some people remained on the police station premises until late at night. He questioned the arrangement and called for the police administration to examine the matter and take necessary action.
Seven-day ultimatum
The protesters gave the police administration seven days to improve the situation. Vijay Pandey warned that if their demands were not addressed, the party would intensify its agitation.
He said the Bengabad-Chatro main road near Gondlitand would be blocked if action was not taken, adding that the administration would be responsible for the consequences of such an escalation.
Demand for prompt action in women’s cases
CPI(ML) state committee member Meena Das raised concerns over the handling of complaints involving women. She demanded that such complaints be heard promptly and that necessary legal action be taken without requiring victims to make repeated visits to the police station.
Land disputes and illegal sand lifting raised
The protesters also raised allegations of land mafia influence in land disputes and illegal sand lifting in the area. They demanded impartial and strict action in such matters and stressed that the law should apply equally to everyone.
OP in-charge denies protection to intermediaries
After the demonstration, representatives of the protesters held talks with the Nawadih OP in-charge.
The OP in-charge said the police did not provide protection to any intermediary. He said cases related to land disputes would be dealt with according to the Circle Officer’s directions and applicable rules.
He also assured the protesters that people submitting complaints would be provided acknowledgements and that copies of FIRs would be made available where an FIR was registered, in accordance with the rules.
Following the talks, the protest was called off. However, CPI(ML) leaders said they would move to the next stage of their agitation and block the main road if they did not see concrete improvement within seven days.
