Ranchi, September 6, 2026: Preparations for Karam Mahotsav 2026 have begun in Misir Gonda, with the Birsa Vikas Jan Kalyan Samiti finalising plans for a series of traditional ceremonies from September 22 to 25.
A preparatory meeting was held at Dhumkuriya in Misir Gonda on Sunday to discuss arrangements for conducting the Karam Puja according to traditional customs and rituals. The meeting was chaired by committee patron Manga Oraon and conducted by secretary Krishna Oraon.
Four-day schedule finalised
According to community intellectual Chilgu Lakra, fasting will be observed on September 22, coinciding with Bhadra Shukla Paksha Ekadashi. The traditional Karam Puja will begin at 7 pm the same evening.
The following day, September 23, will be observed as Parna. On September 24, Karam Raja will be taken through the village in a traditional procession before being immersed.
The celebrations will conclude with the Karam Ind Jatra on September 25.
Committee seeks three-day government holiday
Committee president Anil Oraon said this year’s Karam Puja would also be conducted in accordance with traditional customs, rituals and religious practices.
Describing Karam festival as an important tradition of the tribal community, Oraon urged the state government to declare a three-day government holiday during the festival.
He said such a step would help preserve traditional practices and the cultural heritage associated with the festival.
Community members attend meeting
The meeting was attended by committee office-bearers, members and villagers, including Etwa Munda, Jagannath Oraon, Suresh Toppo, Birsa Bando, Ashish Hemrom, Chhotu Linda, Ganga Kachhap and Rajesh Oraon.
The committee said preparations would continue to ensure that the festival is conducted according to the community’s traditional customs.
