Giridih, September 6, 2026: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato reached Giridih on Sunday following the death of Cabinet Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu and met his bereaved family members to offer condolences.

Mahato travelled from his regional residence in Nala after receiving news of the minister’s death. He paid his respects to Kumar’s mortal remains and offered floral tribute.

Describing Kumar as a younger brother-like figure, Mahato said he was deeply shocked by his untimely death. He called Kumar an energetic member of the Jharkhand Cabinet and said his sudden passing was a painful and irreparable loss for the state.

Speaker recalls Kumar’s public service

Mahato said Kumar had maintained a close connection with public service as an elected representative. He added that people in Giridih and across Jharkhand would remember his contribution.

Kumar had held various organisational responsibilities in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha before entering the Assembly. He was first elected as the JMM MLA from Giridih in 2019.

During his first term, Kumar served on several Jharkhand Assembly committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, General Purposes Committee and Committee on Delegated Legislation.

Second election win led to ministerial role

Kumar won the Giridih Assembly seat again in 2024 and subsequently took charge as a minister in the Jharkhand government.

Mahato said Kumar had shown interest in legislative work and played an active role in identifying priorities for developmental activities. His absence, he added, would continue to be felt in the political sphere.

The Assembly Speaker said people from across the state were mourning Kumar’s death and assured the bereaved family that they stood with them during the difficult period.

Mahato prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for the family to bear the loss.
