Giridih, August 18, 2026: Ten Kanwariyas, including women and the driver, were injured after a pickup van carrying pilgrims overturned near Machiyatand bridge in Tisri police station area of Giridih district on Tuesday.
The pilgrims, residents of Bihar’s Vaishali and Rajgir areas, were returning home after offering prayers at Baba Baidyanath Dham and Baba Basukinath. The accident occurred when the vehicle reached the Machiyatand bridge and the driver reportedly lost control, causing the pickup to overturn by the roadside.
The crash triggered panic at the spot, with nearby residents rushing to help the injured. Tisri police also reached the location after receiving information about the accident.
With assistance from local residents, police rescued the passengers from the overturned vehicle. The injured were taken to Tisri Community Health Centre in police vehicles and an ambulance.
Doctors provided initial treatment at the health centre. Several of the injured were subsequently referred to higher medical facilities for further treatment, according to the source.
The injured have been identified as Mantu Kumar, Jitan Yadav, Pratima Devi, Meena Devi, Suman Raj, Chinta Devi, Meera Devi, Chunnu Kumar, Piyush Kumar and Gautam Kumar.
Police have seized the damaged pickup van. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be established. No death has been reported in the information available.
