Medininagar, August 18, 2026: Pipratand police in Palamu district arrested two people and seized 508 grams of alleged illegal opium during a raid near a primary school in Borodiri Tola Khanwar village, police said on Tuesday.

The arrests followed a tip-off about the alleged sale and purchase of opium in the Pipratand police station area. Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid near the primary school and detained the two suspects.

The arrested men have been identified as Kamal Yadav, 40, son of the late Prayag Yadav, and Jayshree Yadav, 50, son of Hadawan Yadav, both residents of Hedum village under Panki police station in Palamu.

Police said a total of 508 grams of alleged opium was recovered from their possession during the search.

FIR registered under NDPS Act

SDPO Prashant Kumar provided details of the action during a press conference on Tuesday. He said the operation was part of an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and other illegal activities being conducted on the directions of the Palamu Superintendent of Police.

According to police, Pipratand police station case number 45/2026, dated August 18, 2026, has been registered under Sections 17(b) and 18(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The two arrested suspects are being produced before the court as part of the judicial process, police said.

Police say crackdown will continue

Prashant Kumar said police operations against drug trafficking, illegal trade and other criminal activities would continue in the Pipratand area.

He said the police would maintain efforts to identify and act against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

The allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to the investigation and judicial process.
