Jamshedpur, September 05, 2026: Jamshedpur Women’s University is set to hold its fourth convocation on September 8 at the XLRI Auditorium, with around 2,200 undergraduate and postgraduate students scheduled to receive their degrees.
Jharkhand Governor and University Chancellor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will attend the ceremony as the chief guest. The university administration has completed preparations for the event, while the detailed schedule of the Governor’s visit has also been received from Raj Bhavan.
First Jharkhand university to complete four-year UG course on schedule
The university’s Vice-Chancellor said Jamshedpur Women’s University has become the first university in Jharkhand to successfully complete the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) within the prescribed timeframe under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The university has also started admissions to its one-year postgraduate programmes from the current academic session.
Four PhD scholars to receive degrees for the first time
A notable feature of this year’s convocation will be the awarding of PhD degrees to four research scholars, marking the first such conferral in the university’s history.
Along with them, approximately 2,200 students from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will receive their degrees during the ceremony.
New medal system introduced for meritorious students
The university has introduced a new award system this year to recognise academic excellence.
Overall toppers at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels will receive the Chancellor Medal from the Chancellor, while students securing the highest marks in individual programmes will be awarded Gold Medals.
University bodies restructured under new State University Act
The Vice-Chancellor also said the university has completed the restructuring of various academic and administrative bodies in accordance with the new State University Act implemented by the state government.
The reorganisation includes bodies such as the Senate, Syndicate and Boards of Studies. Admissions for the current academic session have been conducted under the revised rules and seat-allocation system.
With the conferment of degrees on a large number of students and the first-ever PhD awards, this year’s convocation is expected to be a significant milestone in the university’s academic journey.
