Ranchi, September 04, 2026: The political confrontation over student and youth issues in Jharkhand intensified on Friday, with JMM central general secretary Vinod Pandey rejecting the BJP’s 48-hour ultimatum and proposed phased agitation as a political move.

In a statement issued on Friday, Pandey accused the BJP of using student concerns for political purposes and said the ultimatum reflected what he described as the party’s “political frustration and arrogance.”

The JMM leader’s response came after the BJP announced a 48-hour deadline and a phased agitation over issues concerning students and recruitment.

JMM asks BJP to produce evidence of job-related allegations

Pandey also challenged the BJP’s allegation that jobs were being “sold”. He said that if the party had evidence to support the charge, it should make the evidence public rather than making what he described as baseless allegations.

He similarly questioned the BJP’s criticism of a meeting between leaders of the INDIA bloc and the Chief Secretary.

Pandey said the government would not function under an ultimatum from the BJP and accused the opposition party of trying to use pressure and threats to influence the government.

Pandey turns focus on BJP’s record in government

The JMM leader also sought to turn the political debate towards the BJP’s record in office.

He asked the BJP to account for the employment opportunities created for young people during its periods in power at the Centre and in Jharkhand. He further criticised the party for raising student issues now, accusing it of shedding “crocodile tears” over their concerns.

On the BJP’s claim that cases registered against students were false, Pandey demanded that the party present facts and evidence to support the allegation.

JMM warns against political protection for law violations

Pandey said attempts to provide political protection to people who violate the law would not be acceptable. He accused the BJP of attempting to challenge the functioning of the government and administrative system in the name of agitation.

The latest exchange adds another layer to the ongoing political dispute over recruitment examinations, student protests and the handling of cases involving protesters.
