Ranchi, September 04, 2026: The historic Shri Madanmohan Temple in Boreya was at the centre of Krishna Janmashtami celebrations on Friday, with Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar using the occasion to underline both the temple’s historical significance and the enduring relevance of Lord Krishna’s teachings.
Speaking at the Janmashtami festival at the temple, Gangwar described the shrine as more than a place of religious faith, calling it an important part of Jharkhand’s historical and cultural heritage.
The temple dates back to 1665, according to the Governor, and its inscriptions and copper-plate records provide important evidence of its history.
Governor calls for connecting younger generation with heritage
Gangwar said historical places and religious traditions can help younger generations understand their roots and cultural identity. He stressed that preserving such heritage should not be limited to protecting old structures but should also involve encouraging young people to learn about the history, traditions and cultural practices associated with them.
He said Jharkhand’s identity extends beyond its natural resources and includes a rich spiritual and cultural heritage that requires collective efforts for preservation and promotion.
Krishna’s teachings remain relevant, says Governor
Linking the festival with contemporary life, Gangwar said Lord Krishna’s life offers guidance on maintaining one’s commitment to truth, righteousness and विवेक even in difficult circumstances.
He highlighted values including love, compassion, friendship, knowledge and duty, while referring to the message of the Bhagavad Gita on action and self-confidence.
The Governor said the principle of performing one’s duty with sincerity, without being driven solely by expectations of results, continues to offer direction in personal life.
He appealed to people to draw inspiration from Krishna’s life and follow the values of truth, harmony, love and duty while contributing to society and the nation’s progress.
‘Shri Madanmohan Swami Stuti’ released
The programme also saw the release of ‘Shri Madanmohan Swami Stuti’ on behalf of the Governor.
Gangwar said the publication represented more than the release of a devotional work, describing it as an effort to preserve and pass on faith, devotion and tradition to future generations. He congratulated the temple committee for the initiative.
Earlier, the Governor offered prayers at the Shri Madanmohan Temple and wished for peace, prosperity and happiness for all.
Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu, former Union ministers Ashwini Choubey and Sudarshan Bhagat, former MPs Ravindra Kumar Pandey and Sameer Oraon, along with other guests and devotees, were present at the celebration.
