Ranchi, September 18, 2025: Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the state’s law and order situation in view of the proposed Rail Roko movement. Senior police officials and railway authorities participated in the meeting, with directives issued to ensure public safety and maintain smooth railway operations.
Law and Order Review by Jharkhand Police
During the meeting, the Jharkhand DGP instructed all district police units to remain on high alert. Superintendents of Police (SPs) across railway zones were directed to strengthen security measures at sensitive locations, including major railway stations, tracks, and junctions.
The review emphasized preventive deployment of forces and proactive intelligence gathering to counter any potential disruption caused by the movement. Officials also discussed strategies for crowd management and rapid response mechanisms.
Rail Roko Movement: Railways Alerted
The proposed Rail Roko movement has raised concerns over possible disruptions in train services across Jharkhand. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) were advised to remain vigilant and coordinate closely with district administrations.
Railway authorities were alerted to take additional precautionary measures to safeguard passengers and ensure uninterrupted train operations. Emergency control rooms are being set up to monitor real-time developments and facilitate immediate communication between state police and railway officials.
Coordination Between Police and Railways

DGP Anurag Gupta stressed the importance of seamless coordination between state police, RPF, and GRP. He highlighted that joint patrolling, surveillance through CCTV, and deployment of special task forces would play a critical role in averting untoward incidents.
The meeting also discussed the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at vulnerable points, particularly in districts with a history of protest-related disturbances. Special attention is being given to railway routes connecting Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Hazaribagh.
Security Preparedness Across Jharkhand
Officials confirmed that additional companies of Jharkhand Armed Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be deployed in sensitive zones. Local police stations have been directed to maintain constant communication with village committees to prevent misinformation and ensure community cooperation.
The DGP underlined that strict legal action will be taken against those attempting to disrupt law and order or damage railway property. Provisions under the Railway Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) will be enforced to deter unlawful activities during the protest.
Impact on Railway Operations in Jharkhand
The law enforcement review highlighted the economic and social importance of uninterrupted railway services in Jharkhand. With the state being a crucial hub for coal transportation, steel industries, and passenger connectivity, any disruption could have far-reaching consequences.
Railway officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring smooth operations while working in tandem with Jharkhand Police to safeguard passengers, cargo movement, and critical infrastructure.
DGP’s Directive for Public Safety
Reiterating the state’s commitment to public safety, DGP Anurag Gupta appealed for peace and cooperation from all stakeholders. He assured that the police and railway authorities are fully prepared to handle any situation arising from the Rail Roko movement, ensuring the safety of citizens and the security of railway assets across Jharkhand.
