Ranchi, November 15, 2024: On the auspicious occasion of Birsa Jayanti, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Babulal Marandi extended heartfelt wishes to the people of Jharkhand. In a post shared on his social media handle, Babulal Marandi commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of the legendary tribal leader, Birsa Munda, paying tribute to his enduring legacy.
“I bow in reverence to ‘Dharti Aaba’ (Father of the Earth), Bhagwan Birsa Munda, on his 150th birth anniversary. By igniting the spirit of rebellion against British rule, he awakened public consciousness and stood for the protection of the dignity of the tribal community and the motherland. His unparalleled struggle and supreme sacrifice remain a perpetual source of inspiration for us,” Marandi stated.
Birsa Munda, regarded as a key figure in the Indian independence movement, led the ‘Ulgulan’ (Great Rebellion) in the late 19th century. His defiance against the colonial regime was marked by his dedication to preserving the rights, identity, and culture of the indigenous population. Known for galvanizing the tribal community, Birsa Munda’s legacy is celebrated each year with the aim of fostering pride in the tribal heritage and contributions to India’s freedom struggle.
Babulal Marandi further urged the people of Jharkhand to honor the principles set by Birsa Munda and commit to building a stronger, more self-reliant society. “Let us, on this Tribal Pride Day, pledge to walk the path shown by Birsa Munda and strive for a united, empowered society,” he added.
