Cyber Crime in Jamshedpur: ATM Card Swapping Case Reported

Jamshedpur, September 29, 2025: A case of cyber fraud has been reported in Jamshedpur’s Ulidih police station area, where criminals managed to withdraw ₹70,000 from a bank account after swapping an ATM card. The incident occurred on the night of September 27, when a resident of Dimna Road, identified as Moti Singh, visited a Canara Bank ATM to withdraw cash.

Fraudsters Trick Customer at Canara Bank ATM

According to police, Singh attempted several times to withdraw money but was unable to get cash from the machine. During the process, a youth approached him under the pretext of helping. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused swapped Singh’s ATM card and deliberately left the card stuck inside the machine. Soon after, he fled from the spot.

₹70,000 Fraudulent Withdrawal Detected in Jamshedpur

Shortly after leaving the ATM, Singh received multiple SMS alerts on his mobile phone, notifying him of withdrawals totaling ₹70,000 from his account. Realizing he had been duped, he immediately filed a complaint at Ulidih police station. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against the holder of mobile number 8409036###, which was allegedly used in the fraudulent transactions.

Police Investigation and CCTV Footage Analysis

The Ulidih police confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and an investigation is underway. CCTV footage from both the Canara Bank ATM booth and the branch premises is being thoroughly examined to identify the accused. Authorities suspect the case is linked to ATM card swapping and phishing techniques, commonly used in cyber crime incidents across Jharkhand.

Public Advisory on ATM Fraud in Jharkhand

Police officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant while using ATMs and to avoid seeking or accepting help from strangers during transactions. Residents have also been advised to keep their ATM cards secure, never disclose their PIN, and immediately report suspicious activity to their bank and local police.
