Ranchi, August 18, 2026: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has stepped up its response to rain-related waterlogging across the city while working on a broader redevelopment plan for some of Ranchi’s major commercial areas.
The civic body said on Tuesday that its Quick Response Team and around 1,200 Safai Mitras were deployed on the ground following waterlogging in several parts of the capital.
Drain cleaning and removal of slabs were undertaken in areas including Bariatu Housing Colony, Pragati Vihar, Saket Nagar, Dwarakapuri, Sewa Sadan, Bahu Bazaar, Deepatoli, Panchsheel Nagar, Argora, Bada Ghaghra and around Kali Tower on HB Road.
Four JCB machines were also used to clear larger drains. Super sucker machines were deployed in Saket Nagar and Panchsheel Nagar, while motor pumps were used to remove accumulated water from areas including Kali Tower, Tupudana and Pandra.
The corporation has kept its response system on alert and shared helpline 18005701235 for residents to report waterlogging. It has also appealed to residents not to dispose of plastic or other waste in drains.
RMC works on redevelopment of key commercial areas
Alongside the immediate response to rain-related problems, the corporation is preparing a wider redevelopment plan for some of Ranchi’s major commercial hubs, with an emphasis on parking, traffic management and civic amenities.
At a second-phase review meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, officials from NBCC presented layouts and designs for the proposed redevelopment of Daily Market, New Market, Upper Bazaar, Khadgarha and Bakri Bazaar.
At S.K. Sahay Daily Market on Main Road, the proposal covers around 2.16 acres and includes a B+4 parking structure along with two commercial-cum-hotel buildings.
For New Market on Ratu Road, the plan covers approximately 1.71 acres of triangular land and proposes a B+3 structure containing modern shops and office spaces.
The proposal for Khadgarha Bus Stand includes a commercial-cum-hotel building on around one acre of land.
The corporation’s stated objective is to go beyond upgrading existing structures and create more organised commercial spaces with improved parking, traffic movement and public facilities.
The redevelopment proposals are at the planning stage, with layouts and designs presented for review during the meeting. Further implementation will depend on the subsequent process adopted by the civic authorities.
