Jharkhand News: Surprise Raid Conducted in Ranchi’s Hotwar Jail, Prison Wards and Hospital Inspected

Police and District Administration Jointly Lead Hotwar Jail Raid

Ranchi, September 26, 2025: A surprise raid was carried out at Birsa Munda Central Jail (Hotwar) on Friday morning by Ranchi Police and the district administration. The operation lasted for nearly three hours, covering inmate wards, cells, the women’s ward, and the jail hospital. The raid was conducted to maintain law and order within the prison and prevent any illegal activities.

No Objectionable Items Found During Hotwar Jail Inspection

Officials confirmed that no objectionable items were recovered during the search. All inmate wards, including those housing notorious prisoners, were thoroughly inspected. The police reported that the situation inside the prison remained normal and under control, with no evidence of illegal material, contraband, or unlawful activity.

Operation Ordered by Ranchi DC and SSP

The raid was carried out under the directives of Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri and Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan. The joint operation was led on the ground by City SP Paras Rana and Sadar SDO Utkarsh Gupta, who supervised the coordinated search efforts.

Heavy Police Deployment in Hotwar Jail Raid

To ensure a comprehensive search, multiple teams were formed, including police officers, executive magistrates, and senior officials. The inspection team consisted of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar), the Executive Magistrate of Ranchi, the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station, the SDO of Khelgaon, along with 12 sub-inspectors and a large police force.

Ranchi Jail Security Under Strict Vigilance

Authorities stated that the raid was part of a regular exercise to maintain strict surveillance inside the jail. Despite intensive checks of all wards and the jail hospital, no illegal items were recovered. Officials confirmed that security arrangements inside Birsa Munda Central Jail, Hotwar, remain intact and under full control of the prison administration and Ranchi Police.
