Jamshedpur, September 20, 2025 – Despite direct orders from the Deputy Commissioner to maintain full duty hours, several senior doctors and staff members at MGM Hospital, Jamshedpur, were found absent during a sudden inspection by the hospital’s Sub-Superintendent. Departments including Medicine, Surgery, and Gynecology reported serious absenteeism issues.

Surprise Inspection Reveals Large-Scale Absenteeism

Sub-Superintendent Dr. Jujhar Manjhi conducted the unscheduled inspection across key OPDs (Outpatient Departments) at MGM Hospital. In the ENT, Orthopedics, Pediatric, and Dental departments, senior doctors were present. However, in Medicine, Surgery, and Gynecology, senior doctors were absent. The Psychiatry OPD had not even begun operations.

Orders From Higher Authorities Ignored

Two days prior, the Deputy Commissioner issued strict instructions to hospital administration, ensure all doctors and staff arrive on time and complete full duty hours. The inspection findings suggest those orders had not been followed.

Patients Experience Delays, Frustration

Patients and their relatives expressed difficulty receiving timely treatment. Some waited in long queues only to find the required OPD closed or doctors not available. MGM Hospital serves as a critical medical hub for thousands in the Kolhan region; absenteeism directly impacts healthcare access.

Action Initiated Following Inspection

Following the surprise check, Sub-Superintendent Dr. Manjhi ordered the creation of a list of absent doctors and staff to be submitted to the Superintendent and Principal of MGM Hospital for further disciplinary action. He also warned that such inspections would continue, and that future absences could lead to stricter disciplinary measures.
