Chaibasa, January 05, 2025: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a series of raids in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, targeting individuals linked to the banned CPI (Maoist) organization. This follows similar operations in Bokaro earlier this year. The raids, which took place at nine locations in West Singhbhum district, focused on suspected Maoist operatives and overground workers (OGWs).
Seized Items and Evidence
During the searches, the NIA seized several incriminating items, including:
These items are believed to be critical in furthering the investigation into Maoist activities in the region.
Background of the Case
The investigation stems from a case registered in March 2024 in Jharkhand’s Tonto Police Station. The case involves the recovery of ₹10,50,000 in cash, communication devices such as walkie-talkies and explosive materials including gelatin sticks. These items were discovered in forested areas between Husipi and Rajabasa villages, based on information provided by a Maoist operative identified as Rajesh Devgam.
The NIA took over the case in July 2024, following evidence of a broader network of Maoist operatives and their supporters.
Significance of the Chaibasa Raids
The raids in Chaibasa were part of the NIA’s efforts to dismantle the CPI (Maoist) network in Jharkhand. This network is suspected of providing logistical and financial support to senior Maoist cadres for illegal and violent activities.
The nine locations raided in West Singhbhum were linked to individuals believed to be key operatives or overground workers for the Maoists.
Key Developments in the Investigation
The investigation has revealed:
Previous Raids in Bokaro
Earlier this year, the NIA conducted similar raids in Bokaro, leading to significant recoveries, including cash, electronic devices and documents. These operations have been instrumental in identifying key players in the Maoist network and disrupting their activities.
NIA’s Ongoing Efforts
The NIA continues to focus on eradicating Maoist influence in Jharkhand and other affected regions. The agency’s systematic approach includes:
Impact on Regional Security
The recent operations in Chaibasa and Bokaro highlight the NIA’s commitment to addressing the Maoist threat in Jharkhand. By targeting the financial and logistical backbone of the CPI (Maoist), these raids are expected to weaken the organization’s capabilities significantly.
