Khunti, September 05, 2026: One of Jharkhand’s prominent natural attractions, Panchghagh Waterfall in Khunti, is undergoing a major makeover aimed at improving its tourist infrastructure and overall visitor experience.
The state Tourism Department is carrying out development and beautification work at an estimated cost of ₹7.5 crore. If the project progresses according to schedule, visitors could see a significantly upgraded Panchghagh during the upcoming New Year season.
Footbridges and pathways getting a new look
The ongoing work covers several key visitor areas, including footbridges, stairs and pedestrian pathways.
The existing facilities are being given a more contemporary appearance, with designer tiles and pink-coloured seating being installed at various locations across the tourist complex.
Old hoarding boards are also being upgraded, while long-standing kiosks are being renovated and equipped with modern facilities.
New buildings and toilets under construction
With tourist footfall increasing, the development plan also includes new buildings and modern toilet facilities.
The focus is on improving basic amenities at the destination while retaining the natural character that makes Panchghagh popular among visitors.
River and waterfall regain natural appeal after monsoon
Following the monsoon, the water level in the Panchghagh River is gradually returning to normal, while the muddy water has started clearing.
The waterfall is set amid green surroundings and large rock formations, with the river dividing into five streams, giving the site its distinctive character.
An administrative official said the aim is to have Panchghagh present a renewed and better-organised appearance before the New Year, giving tourists improved facilities alongside its natural attractions.
