Ramgarh, November 06, 2024: In an ongoing effort to maintain security during the assembly elections, a significant seizure occurred at the Dakgarha Check Post in Ramgarh on Tuesday. During a routine vehicle inspection campaign aimed at ensuring a clean and peaceful election environment, police intercepted a vehicle that attempted to flee upon noticing the check post inspection.
The vehicle, a Hyundai Exter (WB56B-8274), was spotted speeding away after the driver, identified as Shyam Sundar Sahu, saw the police personnel. The officers pursued the vehicle and successfully halted it for further investigation. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered ₹1 lakh in cash hidden inside a black handbag placed behind the driver’s seat.
The vehicle was found to lack proper documentation, and Sahu failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the cash or the absence of legal papers. The discovery of the large sum of money raised suspicions, prompting authorities to take immediate action.
According to the local magistrates and police officials present at the scene, including Herendra Marandi, Kamal Bhagat and Anant Kumar Singh, the money was seized and a report was filed at the Barlanga police station. An official case has been registered, and further investigations are currently underway to determine the source and intended use of the seized cash.
The incident highlights the continuous vigilance at interstate check posts, especially during election times, where routine checks have been intensified to prevent illegal activities. The authorities are focused on ensuring a safe and transparent election process, with further actions to follow as investigations progress.
