In a recent appeal, the officer emphasized that individuals who encounter bribery offers or threats to voters should immediately report the matter to the district control room at the following contact numbers: 0657-2440111, 0657-2221717 or 0657-2221718. Investigations will be conducted and legal actions will be taken against those found guilty.
Legal Consequences for Electoral Offenses
Under Section 171B of the Indian Penal Code, individuals who offer or receive any form of bribe to influence voter decisions during elections face punishment, which may include up to one year of imprisonment, a fine, or both. Additionally, according to Section 171C of the IPC, anyone who threatens a candidate’s voter or another individual with harm can also be penalized with up to one year of imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Flying Squads to Combat Bribery and Intimidation
To enforce these laws, the district administration has established flying squads specifically tasked with tracking down and addressing issues related to bribery and voter intimidation. These teams will focus on taking swift action against individuals engaged in such unlawful practices, ensuring a free and fair election process.
