Ranchi News: Ranchi District Administration Launches Voter Awareness Campaign in Low-Turnout Areas of Morahbadi

Ranchi, Jharkhand, October 2024: In a bid to boost voter turnout, the Ranchi District Administration has initiated a comprehensive voter awareness campaign under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. The campaign is specifically targeted at areas around Morahbadi Maidan, known for historically low voter participation. Led by nodal officer Surbhi Singh, the initiative aims to encourage residents to actively participate in the upcoming election by emphasizing the importance of voting.

Focus on Low-Voting Areas in Morabadi

The voter awareness drive commenced at Pushpanjali Apartment, located near Morabadi Maidan. The campaign expanded to cover several apartment complexes and private residences, including Chandra Apartment, Neelkanth Apartment and Gokuldham Apartment. These areas have been identified as having a lower voting percentage, making them key targets for the awareness efforts. The campaign seeks to educate and encourage residents, including apartment dwellers, local shopkeepers and families, to exercise their democratic right.

Engaging Voters Through Community Participation

The awareness initiative is designed to create a strong sense of community participation. The campaign team, led by Surbhi Singh, conducted door-to-door visits, engaging directly with residents, students and parents to inform them about the importance of voting. Local shopkeepers were also approached to spread the message further, ensuring that the call to vote reached as many people as possible.

“We want to ensure that every eligible voter is aware of their role in the democratic process,” said Surbhi Singh. “Our campaign is about making voting accessible, understandable and essential to every citizen.”

Anganwadi Workers Play a Key Role

The campaign received significant support from Anganwadi workers, who played a pivotal role in spreading awareness. Around 150 Anganwadi workers participated in the event, using local folk songs to draw attention to the importance of voting. The use of music and cultural elements helped create a friendly and approachable environment, making it easier for residents to engage with the campaign’s message.

The workers, dressed in traditional attire, performed songs in regional languages, encouraging people to pledge to vote. This creative approach allowed the team to connect with diverse groups, including the elderly and first-time voters, ensuring the message was accessible and relatable.

Interactive Activities to Raise Awareness

In an effort to make the campaign more interactive and engaging, several creative activities were introduced. Volunteers dressed in costumes, including bear and monkey outfits, roamed the area to attract attention and entertain residents, particularly children and families. This playful element added a sense of fun to the campaign, making it more memorable.

Additionally, the campaign included activities like rangoli and human chains to visually emphasize the message of voter participation. Residents, especially women and children, actively took part in creating colorful rangoli designs, which symbolized unity and democratic participation. These visual representations helped reinforce the importance of voting, encouraging residents to mark their presence at the polling booths.

Campaign to Continue Until Election Day

The Ranchi District Administration plans to continue this awareness drive until election day. Regular activities and events will be held across various neighborhoods, ensuring consistent engagement with the community. The administration hopes that this sustained effort will lead to a significant increase in voter turnout in the targeted areas of Morahbadi.

“We have received positive feedback from the residents so far, and our goal is to keep the momentum going,” added Surbhi Singh. “We are committed to creating a strong culture of voting in Ranchi.”
