Ranchi, September 2, 2026: The bail pleas of former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman L. Khiangte and eight other accused in the alleged 14th JPSC examination fraud case are scheduled to be heard in court on Wednesday.
The hearing will take place before Additional Judicial Commissioner Yogesh Kumar. The court is expected to consider the case diary submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) along with other investigation-related material.
The nine accused whose bail pleas are listed for hearing are L. Khiangte, Abhay Kumar Tiwari, Shweta Gupta, Suman Saurav, Manoj Kumar, Umakant Oraon, Roshan Kerketta, Pawan Kumar Singh and Umesh Kumar.
The CID has already submitted case diaries in connection with the bail pleas of several accused as the investigation into the alleged examination irregularities continues.
L. Khiangte arrested on August 10
CID arrested former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte on August 10 after questioning him for several days in connection with the case. Following his arrest, the investigation agency expanded its probe into different aspects of the alleged irregularities.
The investigation covers the examination process, relevant documents and the alleged roles of people connected with the case. Investigators are examining the available records to establish the sequence of events and the involvement of different individuals.
Abhay Kumar Tiwari arrested from Godda
Abhay Kumar Tiwari was arrested from Godda on July 22. He was posted as a marketing officer in the Food Supply Department in Godda district.
The investigation has also examined his alleged association with TDPL, a company described in the case material as being on a restricted list, where he reportedly worked as a marketing manager. His record of clearing several JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations has also come under scrutiny.
The CID is examining these aspects as part of its investigation into the alleged examination fraud and the roles of those suspected to be connected with it.
Shweta Gupta’s role under investigation
Shweta Gupta, who worked as an examination controller at JPSC, is also among the accused whose bail plea is listed for hearing.
The investigation is examining administrative aspects related to her tenure at the commission, including the fact that she continued working at JPSC for around two months after being transferred to another department.
Police and CID action began on July 21
The police and CID action in the case began on July 21, when a probe was initiated and the JPSC office was also searched as part of the investigation.
The arrests subsequently widened the scope of the case, with more than two dozen people reportedly arrested so far, including former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte.
The agencies are continuing to examine examination-related records, the alleged irregularities and the possible involvement of other people. The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
