Ranchi, September 4, 2026: Preparations are underway to install statues of Shibu Soren, a prominent leader of the Jharkhand movement, across different districts of the state, with January 11 set as the target for completing the installations.
JMM leader Antu Tirkey said the initiative is intended to honour Soren’s long political journey and his contribution to the movement for Jharkhand.
The plan includes statue installations at several prominent locations, while preparations are being taken forward at the district level.
Statues proposed at key locations
In Ranchi, a statue of Shibu Soren is planned at Nevri Chowk.
In Khunti, discussion has been underway on social media about installing a life-size statue outside Birsa College. The source does not indicate that the Khunti installation has been formally confirmed.
In Seraikela, a life-size statue is planned within the stadium premises. The land-puja ceremony for the proposed installation was already conducted on August 4.
Chaibasa installation had faced opposition
The proposed and completed installations have not been without controversy.
Earlier, members of the Ho community had opposed the installation of a Shibu Soren statue along Tata Road in Chaibasa.
Despite the opposition, JMM workers went ahead with the installation at the location.
JMM leaders have said that the wider statue initiative is aimed at recognising Shibu Soren’s contribution to the Jharkhand movement and his long political career.
Preparations for installations at various locations are now being advanced with the stated objective of completing the process across all districts by January 11.
