Jamshedpur, September 05, 2026: Students at Jamshedpur Women’s University will soon have an opportunity to learn drone operations as the university expands its skill-based courses in line with the state government’s directions.
The university is preparing to introduce a dedicated drone operations course, covering the basics of how drones are operated and handled. According to Vice-Chancellor Ela Kumar, the university has signed an MoU with a national-level agency for the proposed programme and is currently in discussions with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The course is expected to begin soon, subject to the necessary process and arrangements.
ISRO-linked programme also planned
Alongside drone training, the university is also in contact with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to introduce an ISRO Kids programme.
The proposed programme will provide students with information related to ISRO and exposure to areas connected with space science and technology.
The university said these are among several skill-development initiatives being planned. The drone operations course and ISRO-linked programme are expected to start during the current year, while other courses will be introduced after their course structures are finalised.
Separate fee structure to be decided
The skill-development programmes will carry a separate fee. The university is in the process of setting up a fee fixation committee, which will determine the fee structure for individual courses.
The move follows the state government’s direction to universities to introduce skill-oriented programmes so that students graduate with practical skills alongside their academic qualifications.
