Jharkhand News: Jharkhand High Court Directs Government to Release New Teacher Recruitment Advertisement Only After JTET

HC Orders State to Conduct JTET by March 2026

Ranchi, September 25, 2025: The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to conduct the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) through the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) by March 2026. The court also made it clear that no new advertisement for teacher recruitment should be issued until the examination is held and results are published.

During the hearing on Wednesday, the High Court expressed strong displeasure over the fact that the JTET exam has not been conducted for the past nine years.

No Recruitment Process Until JTET Exam and Results

The High Court instructed that the government must not begin the recruitment process for the remaining posts of assistant teachers until the JTET examination is completed and results are declared. The bench observed that conducting the eligibility test is a mandatory requirement for teacher appointments in Jharkhand and cannot be bypassed.

State Education Secretary Appears Before Court

In compliance with the earlier order, the State Education Secretary appeared before the High Court on Thursday. The matter was heard in the court of Justice Anand Sen, where the directives were issued to ensure transparency and fairness in the teacher recruitment process in Jharkhand.

Petition Filed by JTET Aspirants

The case reached the court following a petition filed by Ritesh Mahato and 401 other candidates, who had raised concerns over the delay in holding the JTET examination in Jharkhand. Advocates Aparajita Bhardwaj and Kushal Kumar presented arguments on behalf of the petitioners, emphasizing the career uncertainty caused by the long delay in conducting the exam.

Court’s Concern on Delay in JTET

The High Court observed that the absence of the JTET examination in Jharkhand for nearly a decade has adversely affected thousands of aspiring teachers. The directive aims to ensure that the teacher recruitment process remains merit-based and aligned with national standards.
