Ranchi, October 10, 2025 (J.H): A fierce encounter broke out early Thursday between the Ranchi Police and the notorious Rahul Dubey gang in the Ratu area of Jharkhand’s capital. The criminals opened fire upon seeing the police, prompting a swift retaliatory response. Two members of the gang sustained injuries during the exchange, while two others were caught after attempting to flee.
Gunfire Exchange Between Police and Rahul Dubey Gang in Ranchi
According to Ranchi (Rural) Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar, intelligence input revealed that members of the Rahul Dubey gang were present in the Thakurgaon–Khalari–Ratu border region. Acting on this tip, a police team was dispatched to the area early in the morning. Upon reaching the spot, the criminals began firing at the police, triggering a brief but intense gunfight.
In the retaliatory action, two gang members were shot and later taken to the hospital for treatment. The police successfully chased down and arrested two others who tried to escape during the chaos.
Weapons Recovered and Identities Confirmed
SP Pushkar confirmed that eight pistols and several live cartridges were seized from the encounter site. The injured criminals have been identified as Sajan Ansari and Amit Gupta, both key associates of Rahul Dubey, who currently leads the gang following the death of notorious gangster Aman Sahu.
The arrested individuals are being interrogated to gather further intelligence about the gang’s operations and possible hideouts. The police suspect that the gang was planning a major extortion activity in the coal belt region of Ranchi.
Rise of the Rahul Dubey Gang After Aman Sahu’s Death
The Rahul Dubey gang has emerged as one of the most feared criminal groups in Ranchi and its adjoining coal regions, allegedly involved in extortion, contract killings, and illegal coal trade. After the killing of Aman Sahu, Rahul Dubey took over the gang’s command and has since been on the radar of state law enforcement agencies.
Police sources revealed that the gang has been operating in the coal mining zones, collecting protection money from transporters and contractors. Several of its members are already facing criminal cases under serious charges, including murder, robbery, and extortion.

Following the gunfight, security has been tightened across Ratu, Khalari, and adjoining regions, with police checkpoints established to monitor movement. Additional forces have been deployed to prevent any retaliatory attack or gang activity.
Authorities have emphasized that no criminal activity will be tolerated, and strict action will continue against organized crime networks operating in Jharkhand.
