Ranchi, October 13, 2025 (J.H.): A gunfight broke out early Monday morning between the Ranchi Police and members of the notorious Sujit Sinha gang near Balsiring under Tupudana Outpost. One criminal was shot and injured during the encounter, while two others were arrested on the spot. Police have recovered three pistols from the encounter site.
Encounter Between Ranchi Police and Sujit Sinha Gang
According to police officials, the encounter occurred following a recent firing incident outside the residence of criminal Monu Rai in the Doranda police station area. Investigations revealed that the shooters involved in that case were connected to the Sujit Sinha gang.
During Monday’s encounter, one of the criminals, identified as Aftab, sustained bullet injuries in police firing. Two other gang members, including Sonu, were apprehended by the police. Initial interrogation suggests that the trio had carried out the Doranda firing incident under the instructions of gang leader Sujit Sinha.
Ranchi Police Recover Three Pistols from Encounter Site
Speaking to reporters, Rural SP Praveen Pushkar confirmed the encounter and said,
“Our team engaged in a gunfight with the Sujit Sinha gang. One criminal was injured, and two others have been arrested. We recovered three pistols from the location. The investigation is underway.”
Police Crackdown After Inputs on Sujit Sinha Gang Movement
SSP Rakesh Ranjan had earlier received intelligence about the movement of Sujit Sinha’s associates in the Ranchi region. Acting on this tip, Rural SP Praveen Pushkar, Hatia DSP P.K. Mishra, and teams from several police stations launched a coordinated search operation across multiple areas.
The police intensified vehicle and bike checking drives across Ranchi to intercept the suspects. During one such check, police recovered a pistol from a bike rider later identified as Sonu, a known member of the Sujit Sinha gang.
Interrogation Leads Police to Hideout Near Balsiring Hills
Upon interrogation, Sonu revealed that several of his associates were consuming alcohol near Balsiring Hills. Acting swiftly, SP Pushkar formed a special team and proceeded toward the location. As the police team neared the area, the criminals opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate.
In the exchange of fire, Aftab was hit by a bullet, while one more gang member was arrested. Police teams immediately cordoned off the area to prevent any escape. The injured criminal was taken to a local hospital under police custody for treatment.

Following the incident, SSP Rakesh Ranjan reached the encounter site and assessed the situation. He reviewed the entire sequence of events and directed officers to intensify the search for other gang members potentially hiding in nearby areas.
Authorities believe that the Sujit Sinha gang has been involved in several criminal activities across Ranchi, including extortion, contract killings, and firing incidents to spread terror. The recent encounter marks a significant step in Ranchi Police’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the gang’s network.
