Jharkhand News: JSLPS Plans National Market Expansion for Jharkhand Honey, Focuses on Rural Women’s Livelihoods

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) is planning to strengthen market access for honey produced in the state by connecting it with markets across the country. The initiative is being pursued under the Honey Value Chain Project, which aims to expand honey production while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women.

JSLPS Chief Executive Officer Ananya Mittal said systematic efforts are needed to ensure that Jharkhand honey reaches various markets nationwide. He noted that expanding the sector could generate additional employment and income opportunities for a larger number of rural women.

JSLPS Reviews Honey Value Chain Project in Nagri and Itki

During a visit to Honey Migration Centers operating under the Honey Value Chain Project in Nagri and Itki blocks, Mittal reviewed activities related to beekeeping, honey production, and marketing.

He also inspected honey packaging arrangements and bee boxes and emphasized the importance of maintaining high product quality. According to him, quality products are essential for building a lasting presence in the market and strengthening consumer confidence.

Beekeeping Emerging as a Source of Income for Rural Women

Mittal said beekeeping is increasingly becoming an effective livelihood option for rural women in Jharkhand. Through the Honey Value Chain Project, women are being linked to multiple stages of the value chain, from production to marketing, enabling them to become more self-reliant.

He stressed the need to further strengthen branding and marketing systems so that honey produced in Jharkhand can gain wider recognition in national markets.

Honey Sector Holds Strong Growth Potential in Jharkhand

Highlighting the prospects of the sector, Mittal said Jharkhand offers significant opportunities in honey production and marketing. He stated that systematic development of the sector could strengthen the livelihoods of thousands of rural families while also contributing to women’s empowerment.

Officials associated with the project, members of the Board of Directors of the Farmer Producer Company, women beekeepers, and other personnel were present during the visit.
