Hazaribagh, November 29, 2024: Former MLA of Barkagaon, Amba Prasad, has filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the circulation of a fake and objectionable video targeting her on social media. The complaint was lodged at Keredari Police Station, sparking an investigation led by Jharkhand Police and the Cyber Cell.
Complaint Details Highlight Allegations of Cyber Misconduct
In her FIR, Amba Prasad alleged that the fabricated video, which has been shared widely on platforms like Facebook, tarnished her reputation. The complaint identified the video as originating from a Facebook account managed by Pankaj Kumar, a resident of Keredari and a catering professional.
Amba Prasad has also approached the Cyber Cell with a written complaint, demanding strict action against those involved in creating and disseminating the misleading video.
Arrest and Police Action
According to Cyber DSP and Headquarters Officer Amit Kumar, the police acted swiftly after the FIR was registered. Pankaj Kumar, the accused account holder, was arrested from the Pandepura locality in Keradari. Pankaj Kumar allegedly used his Facebook account to alter photographs of Amba Prasad and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, creating objectionable visuals that were subsequently shared online.
Jharkhand Police Collect Electronic Evidence
Authorities are now collecting electronic evidence to strengthen their case against the accused. Cyber DSP Amit Kumar confirmed that the Facebook profile linked to the video had been identified as belonging to Pankaj Kumar, who used the account to post and share manipulated content.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Kumar employed basic editing tools to fabricate visuals aimed at defaming the former MLA and the Chief Minister. The police are examining the extent of Kumar’s network and investigating whether others were involved in circulating the video.
Implications for Cybersecurity and Political Figures
This case underscores the rising concern over cybercrimes targeting public figures. Jharkhand Police has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting those responsible for such malicious activities. Officials emphasized the need for vigilance and urged social media users to refrain from sharing unverified content that can harm individuals’ reputations.
Future Action and Ongoing Investigation
Investigators are focusing on identifying others who might have shared the video or contributed to its creation. Cybersecurity experts are assisting the police in tracing the digital footprint of the content’s origin. Authorities have stated that all individuals involved, directly or indirectly, will face legal consequences.
The case has sparked a broader conversation about online safety and the misuse of social media platforms to spread defamatory content.
