Families of Five Victims in Jharkhand to Receive Financial Assistance

Ranchi, September 26, 2025: The Jharkhand Home, Prisons and Disaster Management Department has issued an order granting compensation to the families of five people killed in separate incidents of Naxal violence across the state. According to the directive, each affected family will receive ₹1 lakh as ex-gratia assistance.

Officials confirmed that the victims belonged to Chaibasa, Khunti, Ranchi and Gumla districts, where incidents of Maoist-related violence have claimed several lives in recent years.

Compensation Details Issued by the Home Department

The official notification outlined the following beneficiaries of the government’s financial aid:

  • Chaibasa: Ratan Munda, son of Sita Munda, will receive ₹1 lakh. Sita Munda was killed in Naxal violence in Gudri area on May 27, 2018.
  • Khunti: Family of Etwa Kundalna will be given ₹1 lakh. He lost his life during Maoist violence in Runia on July 7, 2019.
  • Chaibasa: Wife of Vikram Honhana will receive ₹1 lakh. Honhana was killed in Naxal attack in Goilkera on June 16, 2023.
  • Ranchi: Wife of Rajesh Manjhi will be provided ₹1 lakh. Manjhi died in Maoist violence in Tamar area on August 6, 2017.
  • Gumla: Wife of Sumit Keshri will get ₹1 lakh. Keshri was killed in a Naxal incident in Palkot on January 14, 2023.

Jharkhand’s Response to Naxal Violence and Victim Support

The move is part of the state’s ongoing policy to provide relief and rehabilitation to victims of extremist violence. The compensation aims to support the families who have lost their primary breadwinners in incidents linked to Maoist insurgency.

The Home Department emphasized that such assistance is a crucial step toward addressing the social and economic hardships faced by the families of victims affected by Naxal insurgency in Jharkhand.
