Jamshedpur, October 26, 2024: Dr. Ajoy Kumar, the Congress candidate from Jamshedpur East, has raised concerns over former Chief Minister Raghubar Das’s alleged failure to deliver on his promises regarding ownership rights. Addressing the media on Saturday, Dr. Ajoy Kumar questioned the efforts made by Das during his tenure, highlighting that despite his long political career, he could not fulfill a key promise to the people.
Raghubar Das Misled People on Ownership Rights, Claims Ajoy Kumar
According to Dr. Ajoy Kumar, Raghubar Das served as the MLA of Jamshedpur East for 25 years, eventually becoming the Chief Minister with strong public support. However, despite these achievements, Dr. Ajoy Kumar accused Raghubar Das of failing to take decisive actions on the issue of ownership rights. He argued that Raghubar Das had used the promise of granting ownership rights as a tool to secure votes but did not take concrete steps once in power.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar stated, “For 25 years, Raghubar Das kept the people of Jamshedpur East hoping for ownership rights, but it was merely a political ploy. He enjoyed the benefits of power while misleading the people with false promises.”
Eviction and Sublease Issues Highlighted
Dr. Ajoy Kumar also pointed out the irony in Raghubar Das’s administration evicting people under the pretense of clearing encroachments, even after assuring residents of securing their ownership rights. “Before elections, Raghubar Das had committed to protecting the ownership rights of the people. But once he assumed office, those promises were forgotten, and negotiations were initiated that seemed to benefit corporate interests,” said Dr. Ajoy Kumar.
He alleged that Raghubar Das engaged in talks about subleases with Tata Company, questioning why the properties were removed from lease agreements if subleasing was always the plan. This, according to Dr. Ajoy Kumar, undermined the efforts to establish clear ownership for the residents.
Key Decisions Created Barriers to Ownership Rights
Dr. Ajoy Kumar further claimed that a significant barrier to securing ownership rights was a policy decision by Raghubar Das’s government, which limited the lease agreements to 10 decimal plots rather than providing full ownership rights. He emphasized that this approach was insufficient and posed a significant obstacle for the people of Jamshedpur who were seeking clarity on their property ownership.
Issue Extends Beyond Jamshedpur, Says Ajoy Kumar
Dr. Ajoy Kumar made it clear that the issue is not just limited to Jamshedpur East but is a statewide problem. He explained that many residents across Jharkhand are still facing uncertainties regarding property ownership and it remains a critical issue for a large portion of the population.
“If given the opportunity, I am committed to forming a dedicated commission to tackle this issue comprehensively,” said Dr. Ajoy Kumar, ensuring that his party would prioritize finding a solution to this long-standing problem. He assured that efforts would be made to resolve the matter seriously, promising action and transparency.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar’s remarks have brought the issue of ownership rights back into the political spotlight, raising questions about the promises made by leaders and the actions taken once they are in power. As the election approaches, it remains to be seen how these allegations will impact the political narrative in Jamshedpur East.
