East Singhbhum Police Arrest Accused with Brown Sugar Near Kuwa Maidan

East Singhbhum, October 5, 2025: The Sitaramdera police in East Singhbhum district arrested a man on Sunday while he was allegedly selling brown sugar near Kuwa Maidan. The accused has been identified as Raju Lohar, a resident of Uraon Basti.

Brown Sugar and Cash Seized During Raid in Sitaramdera

According to DSP Headquarters I Bhola Prasad, police recovered 98 packets of brown sugar and ₹2,200 in cash from the accused during the operation. Officials stated that Lohar has been involved in similar illegal activities in the past and was previously arrested by Sakchi police for drug peddling.

Accused Has Prior Criminal Record in Drug Peddling

Police investigations revealed that Lohar had earlier served eight months in jail for his involvement in brown sugar smuggling in the Sakchi area. Despite imprisonment, he allegedly continued the illegal trade after being released.

Brown Sugar Supply Network Under Investigation

Authorities disclosed that Lohar recently procured brown sugar from Adityapur and began distributing it in the Sitaramdera area. During interrogation, he reportedly provided the names of several other drug suppliers, and police confirmed that further action would be taken against those linked to the supply chain.

Police Statement on Brown Sugar Seizure

Following the arrest, Sitaramdera police station in-charge Niranjan Kumar confirmed that the accused has been sent to jail. The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of illegal drug trade in East Singhbhum, with police intensifying efforts to dismantle the supply network.
