Chaibasa, August 26, 2026: Effective knowledge management and systematic documentation are essential for producing credible research and meaningful social work, Dr Tarvez Alam said during a one-day workshop at Kolhan University’s Postgraduate Department of Geography on Tuesday.
The workshop focused on knowledge management and fieldwork documentation, bringing together postgraduate students and faculty members to discuss how information collected during field studies can be properly recorded, managed and presented.
Dr Tarvez Alam, the keynote speaker, emphasised that evidence-based documentation strengthens the reliability of research. He explained that researchers should approach fieldwork through the basic framework of what, when, where, why, who and how – the five Ws and one H.
He also highlighted the importance of collecting data accurately and then organising and presenting it systematically. According to him, these steps directly contribute to the quality and credibility of research.
Students learn practical aspects of fieldwork
Kolhan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Anjali Gupta, who attended the programme as the chief guest, urged students to maintain originality and integrity in their research work.
Registrar Dr Amar Kumar said workshops of this nature help students connect academic concepts with the practical requirements of fieldwork and research documentation.
The programme was organised by Geography Department head Dr Sunita Kumari, with Dr Kanchan serving as co-coordinator. Dr Dharmendra Rajak, Dr Meenakshi Munda, Pradeep Jha and IQAC director Dr Ranjit Karn were also present.
Students from the first and second semesters of the postgraduate Geography programme participated in the workshop. Research scholars and students, including Saraswati Bhuria Purti, Sudipto, Sarita and Shiksha, also attended.
The interactive session included questions from students on knowledge management and field documentation, which were addressed by the speakers during the programme.
