Chaibasa, August 26, 2026: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has announced a one-day protest in Chakradharpur on September 7 against the MMDR Amendment Bill 2026, with the party’s local unit planning to mobilise workers, supporters and residents from across the block.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the JMM Chakradharpur block committee held at the Chakradharpur MLA’s residential office. The meeting was chaired by block president Sunny Oraon and conducted by block secretary Tarakant Sijui.
The party’s local leadership described the amendment as anti-people and against Jharkhand’s interests and discussed a broader campaign to highlight what it considers the potential impact of the legislation on the state.
Protest planned at Chakradharpur block office
The main demonstration will be held outside the Chakradharpur block office on September 7, 2026. JMM leaders said a large number of villagers, party workers and supporters from across the block are expected to participate.
The meeting also decided to organise a phased public campaign at the village, panchayat and block levels. Party workers will explain the JMM’s objections to the legislation and seek public support for the movement.
The party said the campaign would focus particularly on what it describes as the protection of Jharkhand’s mineral and revenue rights.
JMM discusses booth-level organisational expansion
The meeting also focused on strengthening the party organisation ahead of the planned agitation.
JMM leaders decided to expand booth committees and review the organisational position at each booth. Workers were assigned to reach out to households and explain the party’s position on the Centre’s policies.
Jharkhand Movement Agitators Identification Commission member Bhubaneswar Mahto and MLA representative Piru Hembrom were among those present at the meeting, along with representatives from various panchayats and a large number of party workers.
The participants said the state should not compromise on its mineral and revenue rights and warned that the agitation could be expanded if required.
