Ranchi, August 29, 2026: Ranchi Police conducted a coordinated checking operation across more than 50 sensitive locations on Saturday evening and night, detaining over 100 people during the drive, according to police.
The operation was carried out on the instructions of SSP Rakesh Ranjan as part of an effort to address public nuisance, open drinking and other activities affecting law and order in the city.
Police teams carried out searches of suspicious persons, checked vehicles and monitored locations considered vulnerable to public disorder. People creating disturbances or gathering without apparent reason were also asked to disperse.
Police officers monitored the operation across the city
The operation was directly monitored by senior police officers, while DSPs took part in the field-level action along with police station in-charges and armed police personnel.
The checking drive covered busy commercial areas including Firayalal Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk and Main Road. Police also maintained a presence around public spaces such as Morabadi Maidan, OTC Ground and DIG Ground.
Teams additionally checked stretches around the Smart City area in Dhurwa, isolated roads along the Ring Road, vacant plots and other poorly lit or sensitive locations.
Special attention was also given to areas around liquor shops, roadside eateries, kiosks and other gathering points where police were checking for public drinking and nuisance.
More than 100 people detained during checking
Police said more than 100 people were detained during the operation for activities including allegedly drinking in public, moving around in suspicious circumstances and disturbing public peace.
Their names, addresses and identity details were recorded by the police. They were subsequently released with warnings against repeating such activities, according to the information provided by the police.
Police focus on public safety
Ranchi Police said the operation was aimed at preventing incidents such as harassment, public drinking and disorder and at maintaining a safer environment in public spaces.
The police appealed to residents to cooperate in maintaining law and order and asked them to report suspicious activity or incidents of public nuisance through Dial 112 or the nearest police station.
The coordinated checking drive covered multiple parts of the city rather than being limited to a single police station area.
