Chaibasa, September 1, 2026: Senior doctor Dr Meena Kalundia has taken charge as the Civil Surgeon of West Singhbhum, filling the vacancy created following the retirement of Dr Jujhar Manjhi on August 31.
The Health Department has assigned Dr Kalundia the additional charge of Civil Surgeon. She formally assumed responsibility on Tuesday at Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa.
Doctors welcome new Civil Surgeon
Following her assumption of charge, doctors and hospital staff welcomed Dr Kalundia at her office.
Dr Shivcharan Hasda and Dr Jagannath Hembram presented her with bouquets and congratulated her on taking up the new responsibility. Other hospital employees also welcomed her.
Strengthening district health services among key challenges
Dr Kalundia takes charge at a time when the district health system faces several operational challenges.
Improving services at Sadar Hospital as well as community health centres (CHCs) and primary health centres (PHCs) in rural areas will require attention to issues including shortages of doctors, availability of medicines and facilities for patients.
The monsoon also brings an additional public-health challenge, with malaria, dengue and other seasonal illnesses requiring preventive measures and timely intervention.
Doctors expressed hope that the health department would work with greater coordination under Dr Kalundia’s leadership and that special attention would be given to preventing seasonal diseases during the rainy season.
Dr Kalundia promises coordinated efforts
After taking charge, Dr Kalundia said she would make every possible effort to improve healthcare services across the district.
She said she would work with the cooperation of doctors and other health workers to strengthen the health system and improve services for patients.
Her appointment follows Dr Jujhar Manjhi’s retirement and is expected to ensure continuity in the functioning of the district health administration.
