Ranchi, September 2, 2026: Jharkhand is set for another spell of active monsoon weather on Wednesday, with heavy rainfall forecast across 10 districts. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely in several areas.
The weather activity is being linked to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system may move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand during the next 48 hours, keeping conditions unsettled in parts of the state.
10 districts under heavy rain warning
The districts facing the heavy rainfall warning are Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, Simdega and West Singhbhum.
Several locations in these districts could receive heavy showers. Persistent rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, while rising water levels in smaller rivers and streams could create difficult conditions in vulnerable locations.
The possibility of sudden flooding in some areas cannot be ruled out if heavy rainfall continues. Residents in the affected districts are advised to keep track of weather alerts and local advisories.
Lightning and strong winds add to weather risk
The heavy rain warning has been accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the same districts.
Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may affect some areas, potentially disrupting electricity supply and affecting weak trees and structures. During thunderstorms, people should avoid open fields and taking shelter under trees or near electricity poles.
Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected to remain possible across different parts of Jharkhand during the September 1-5 period.
Ranchi likely to remain cloudy
The capital Ranchi is also likely to experience cloudy conditions on Wednesday, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers possible in several parts of the city.
Lightning and gusty winds may accompany the showers. The rain is also expected to keep temperatures relatively moderate, with the minimum temperature around 23°C and the maximum near 28°C.
Heavy rain recorded in several districts on Tuesday
Several parts of Jharkhand received significant rainfall on Tuesday. Available figures put rainfall at around 131 mm in Bokaro, 97 mm in Daltonganj and 57 mm in Jamshedpur, while Deoghar recorded about 5.6 mm.
Ranchi and several other areas remained cloudy for much of the day, with intermittent showers reported. Continued rainfall has improved the weather conditions but has also contributed to waterlogging in some places and rising water levels in rivers.
If the intense rainfall persists, low-lying areas, rural roads and smaller bridges and culverts could face difficulties. Residents in vulnerable areas should follow updates issued by the weather department and local administration.
