Jharkhand News: UGC Issues Notice to 4 Private Universities in Jharkhand Over Transparency Issues

New Delhi, September 30, 2025: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued notices to 54 private universities across India, including four from Jharkhand, for failing to maintain transparency on their official websites. The commission has directed these institutions to publicly display essential details related to courses, faculty, research, infrastructure, finance, and governance.

UGC Guidelines on Website Transparency

According to the UGC, all private universities must ensure that such information is easily accessible without login or registration requirements. The regulator emphasized that transparency is crucial to safeguard the interests of students and parents who rely on official university data for decision-making.

Action Against Non-Compliance

The UGC has warned that strict action will be taken if the universities fail to comply with its directives. The commission has instructed all institutions under notice to update their websites immediately and align with prescribed transparency norms.

Jharkhand Universities Among Those Notified

Out of the 54 universities served notices, four are located in Jharkhand. Other states with non-compliant universities include Gujarat (8), Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Manipur, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Sikkim, and West Bengal.

Experts Welcome UGC’s Decision

A senior academic welcomed the UGC’s move, stating that making accurate and updated information available on university websites is essential for ensuring accountability. “If universities withhold critical details, students and guardians may be misled. Transparency fosters trust and helps families make informed decisions,” the teacher added.

UGC Directive for Immediate Updates

The UGC has instructed all concerned universities to update their websites at the earliest with complete and accurate information. The commission reiterated that transparency in higher education institutions is not optional but a mandatory requirement under its regulations.
